Armstrong to make second appearance in Macau Grand Prix

A new chapter is coming for the Macau Grand Prix and SJM Prema Theodore Racing. The world’s most outstanding and challenging street venue is set to welcome the teams and drivers of the 2019 FIA Formula 3 Championship for the 66th edition of the event, which will feature new and improved machinery. The action on-track is thus expected to be as exciting and spectacular as ever.

Lining-up as the early favourite, SJM Prema Theodore Racing will chase its ninth victory between the streets of Macau, carrying on the legacy started back in 1974 by Theodore Racing founder, Teddy Yip Sr. The team is delighted for the continued and loyal support of Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (“SJM”), returning as Title Sponsor and Official Partner of SJM Prema Theodore Racing for the seventh consecutive season. ICBC (Macau) will continue to be a Promotion Partner.

For the 2019 Macau Grand Prix, the team will field the same line-up that delivered a stellar FIA Formula 3 season, sweeping both the driver and team titles and ending up in the first three positions of the driver championship with a total of eight wins. The bottom line is that the Italian-based operation will have plenty of talent to rely on to meet its ambitious goals.

Leading the way will be newly-crowned FIA Formula 3 champion Robert Shwartzman. The 20-year-old Russian enjoyed an incredibly successful season, sealing the championship with one race to go and scoring three wins and two pole positions along the way. He now wants to add a crown jewel to his resume with a win in the Macau Grand Prix, where he will be racing for the second time.

It will also be the second appearance for Marcus Armstrong (main picture from 2018 Macau GP). The 19-year-old New Zealander finished the Formula 3 season as a runner-up, delivering an exciting comeback that saw him record three wins. After winning the Italian Formula 4 Championship in 2017, Armstrong quickly cruised to victory in Formula 3 competition, soon becoming a front runner.

A major contender in Macau and concluding the three-car assault will be Indian driver Jehan Daruvala who is aiming high for his third visit to the Macau Grand Prix. While he finished third by just one point to his team-mate Armstrong in the regular season, he showed great pace and will rely on his additional experience to make a difference in such a complex event. The 21-year-old from Mumbai scored two wins this season and wants to cap his F3 stint with a memorable result.

With the team’s ultra-competitive driver line-up confirmed, SJM Prema Theodore Racing will be hunting for glory when the 66th Macau Grand Prix takes place between 14-17 November.
