Kiwi driver Faine Kahia will be heading to Italy next week to test drive a Lamborghini Super Trofeo Huracán with Lamborghini team, Vincenzo Sospiri Racing (VSR).
VSR competes in a variety of series such as Lamborghini Super Trofeo, Italian GT Championship, Asian Le Mans, Formula 4 Japan, Blancpain GT Series Asia, and has worked with an array of top tier drivers including Formula 1 and GT Champions. Team Principal, Vincenzo Sospiri, is himself a multiple champion, having won titles including World Sportscar, Indycar, Vauxhall Lotus and was also a Benetton Formula 1 test driver.
“A test drive with a Lamborghini team is definitely an exciting and huge challenge for me. This massive opportunity wouldn’t have come about without the help of Peter Thompson, owner of Meritus GP team, after a successful season racing in his Formula 4 Southeast Asia Championship. Over many years Peter has helped a lot of young drivers with their racing careers and I am extremely grateful to be one of them. ”
This year five VSR drivers were selected into the 2017 Lamborghini Young Driver Programme and this test will be Kahia’s chance to impress and potentially gain further opportunities within the Lamborghini programmes.
“It is very important that I be on top of my game and work well with the team and car. Opportunities to test with a Championship winning team don’t just come around. My goal is to go out there and give it my absolute best and impress Vincenzo and the team. Ultimately my goal is to gain a season racing for VSR and do well, and hopefully go on to be selected into the next intake of the junior Lamborghini Young Driver Programme. My goals are high and I believe they are achievable.”
Kahia will be testing the VSR Lamborghini Super Trofeo Huracán at the Cremona circuit on 5 September and will attend the Italian GT Championship event at Imola the following weekend as a guest of the team.
“Spending extra time with VSR at a race weekend is an added bonus as there’ll be even more opportunity to get to know the team and it will be great to see them in action. I am heading into this test 100% serious with big visions of racing the Huracán and feel confident we’ll be able to make it happen. I’m getting really itchy feet now and cant wait!”
