Marcus van Klink, Whangarei 2017

Kaiapoi’s Marcus van Klink heads to the fourth round of the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship, the Mahindra Goldrush Rally Coromandel, looking to break a curse that seems to be over him on the Whitianga based event.

Having been a round of the championship for the past three years, van Klink has only once made the finish, taking a Historic class victory in 2014. Since then a differential failure and electrical problems have prevented him making the finish in the past two seasons.

This year sees van Klink and co-driver Dave Neill take to the stages in a new weapon of choice, the wildly popular triple-rotor powered Buteline Mazda RX-8 and the pair will be hoping the new car will bring a change of luck.

Despite a troubled start to the season, van Klink currently sits third in the Open two-wheel drive standings and is looking to secure a strong result at Coromandel to kick start the second half of the season.

“The Coromandel event is one that hasn’t been that kind to us in the past, so we’re hoping that this time around we can have a clean run,” says van Klink. “If nothing else, we’ll certainly get to throw some stones around and make some cool noises for all the spectators out there.”

As well as their loyal group of sponsors, Klink Rallysport would like to welcome on board Entire Electrical Solutions to the team.

The Mahindra Goldrush Rally Coromandel sees teams leave the Mercury Bay Sports Park from 7am on Saturday 26 August, with teams taking on 125 kilometres of special stages all over the Coromandel Peninsula before returning to the finish in Whitianga’s Blacksmith Lane from 5pm.
