Chris van Der Drift and Chinese driver Li Chao have finished on the podium at a chaotic round of the combined China GT Championship and the GT Asia Series. The pair were driving for JRM Motorsport at the Beijing Audi Goldenport Motor Park in China.
Having qualified P3 for the opening race on Saturday, Chao got caught in traffic and went off the road and out of the race.
The pair fared betting in the second race of the weekend. Starting from the rear of the field, they were able to finish second in China GT and first in GT Asia categories.
“In race two my team mate Li Chao started and was making progress when he got turned around and all progress was lost,” commented van der Drift. “Then from there we had a mega pitstop and drive back to second and the first Porsche GT3R home. I would say a good end to the up and down weekend.”
Fellow Kiwi Will Bamber (Audi R8 LMS) was also competing over the weekend but in the GT4/GTC class. Like van der Drift he too suffered a retirement in race one but came back in race two to finish third with team mate Bian Hao.
