Rallying Call For Manfeild Grand Prix

NOW is the time for Manawatu motorsport fans to act if they want to retain the New Zealand Grand Prix at Manfeild Park, the facility’s chief executive believes.

“Since 2008 we have been entrusted with a unique sporting event, a spectacular contest that celebrates our rich motorsport heritage and has become a major drawcard – a national championship with international competition,” commented Heather Verry about the race, at the Feilding circuit next weekend (February 11-12).

Paddon excited to start SWRC campaign on Swedish snow

 

New Zealand’s top rally driver Hayden Paddon and his co-driver John Kennard are looking forward to tackling the challenges of rallying on snow for the first time as their 2012 campaign starts in Sweden next week.

Paddon, now based in Montgat, Spain, and Kennard, from Blenheim, commence their challenge to win the 2012 FIA Super 2000 World Rally Championship at Rally Sweden, which runs from 9 to 12 February.

Paddon says he’s very excited by the prospect of competing on snow for the first time in his ASM Motorsports-prepared Skoda Fabia S2000 rally car.

NZV8 driver, Michael Bristow desperate to race at Manfeild

Pukekohe NZV8 driver, Michael Bristow (24), is desperate to re-join the BNT NZV8 Championship field for the NZ Grand Prix meeting at Manfeild (Feb 11-12) and the final round of the championship at Taupo Motorsport Park (March 10-11). Bristow, a talented young driver and engine builder, had entered the championship with high hopes of reasonable success. However, at the first round of the championship at Pukekohe Park, he was involved in the huge accident that saw several cars aquaplane off the track when a downpour occurred just after the race started.

Special Rally Tours To See Kiwi Rally Star Hayden Paddon

Hayden Paddon and his New Zealand World Rally Team (NZWRT) have announced they’ll host two official rally tours for fans to see the star Kiwi rally driver in action during 2012.

The special team tours cover Rally New Zealand, running 21 to 24 June, and Rally Spain, running 8 to 11 November, which wraps up Paddon’s first season of competition in the FIA Super 2000 World Rally Championship (SWRC).

Cody's D1NZ Drift Series Raises Money For Daniel

The Cody's D1NZ Drift series and three of its top drivers have put together a unique Trademe auction and raffle to raise money for young cancer victim Daniel Baxter.

Daniel, 16, is terminally ill and D1NZ's Brendon White says he first heard about the Auckland teenager via Facebook.

"His friend, Callum Turner, created a page called 'My Mate Daniel' and it really struck a cord with me - and obviously a lot of other people."

Lightfoot Continues Run Of Podiums At Timaru

BSL Racing’s Mike ‘Buzz’ Lightfoot has continued his superb run of podium finishes through the south island rounds of the UDC V8 Ute series with a second overall at round four of the series, held at Levels raceway near Timaru, over the weekend.

Last weekend, Lightfoot took his debut win in the series on his way to third place for the round at Teretonga near Invercargill and he carried the form in Friday testing, setting the second fastest time in both sessions.

Lester Leads TRS Rookie Standings After Round Two

Jono Lester has improved to fifth overall in the 2012 Toyota Racing Series, and leads the Rookie Standings after a strong performance at the second round of the championship at Timaru International Motor Raceway.

After entering the round a lowly 12th overall following a DNF at the opening round in Invercargill, Lester aimed for a solid points haul at Timaru to head North on a high note.
