MRF Tyres have once again proven their worth at the fourth round of the Stadium Finance Mainland Rally Series, the Mag & Turbo Rally Nelson, with MRF drivers taking out three of the top four placings and four class victories.

The MRF attack was led by veteran driver Deane Buist, who took second outright in a Ford Escort despite having only two-wheel drive. Buist was also the top competitor in the Mainland series and first in Class C, topping off the day with a stage win in stage seven.

Right behind him in third overall was Jeff Judd. Having made a mid-season switch to MRF tyres at Rally Canterbury, Judd returned to the podium and set top three stage times on six of the seven stages.

One of the stars of the rally was Garet Thomas, who took honours in Class E and fourth overall. Thomas shot to second place with a stage win on stage four, then set consistent top five times throughout the afternoon.

There were also class wins for Ashton Wood (Class F) in his Ford Escort RS1800 and Mike Sheehan (Ford Fiesta R2) in class B.

“We continue to be really impressed with the performance of the MRF tyres and the results that they are achieving,” says Palmside NZ Ltd’s Deane Buist. “Nelson threw up a huge variety of conditions yet we’ve got front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive cars all succeeding on MRF Tyres.”
