Competing Overseas

Competing Overseas

Competitors who wish to take part in an international competition organised overseas can do so with the prior approval of MotorSport New Zealand. MotorSport New Zealand issues two types of Visas for competing overseas; An International Clearance Visa and a Tasman Visa. A prerequisite for issuing either Visa is to first obtain an International Medical Card.

If you are planning on competing overseas it is important that you do not leave your licence and Visa applications to the last minute. Visa's and International licences take a lot longer to process than standard New Zealand competition licences, and often organisers will request to see a copy of your clearance Visa when you submit your entry form.

Tasman Visa

The World Motor Sport Council of the FIA has approved a request made jointly by Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) and MotorSport New Zealand for mutual recognition of competition licences in accordance for events agreed annually by MotorSport NZ and CAMS. Generally such events will be selected to include at least all National Championship events listed on the Sporting Calendars issued by MotorSport NZ and CAMS respectively. Other Events may be selected for inclusion should both MotorSport NZ and CAMS agree.

To apply for a Trans Tasman Visa competitors must fill out the application form A001D and specify the name of the event/s they are wishing to compete in. By submission of the application for a Trans Tasman Visa the competitor shall agree to be bound by the rules (procedural, judicial and technical) of CAMS for the duration of the Visa.

International Clearance Visa

Licence holders wishing to compete in an event outside of New Zealand listed on the FIA International Sporting Calendar must apply for an International Clearance Visa using form A001E. The applicant must be the holder of an International Grade licence unless stated otherwise in the supplementary regulations for that event. Competitors may be eligible for certain events that are not listed on the FIA International Calendar if they are permitted by the host ASN as National with foreign participation. Please contact the office if you would like further information on this.
