The Presidents High Performance Scholarship

In 2010 The Presidents Scholarship was revised to give more flexibility on the type of support that the Trust could provide and better reflect the needs of our Elite competitors for those resident in new Zealand or based offshore.

The level of financial support was also increased. It was also decided that for any selected Rally Driver, provided there was a codriver of long standing as part of that team combination, then a suitable support package would be provided for the codriver as well.

Recipients: 2010

Hayden Paddon, Geraldine

John Kennard, Blenheim

Mitchell Evans, Auckland

Richie Stanaway, Tauranga

FIA Young Driver Development Programme

In 2010 the Trust was engaged by the MotorSport NZ Executive to develop a paper on integrating the FIA Young Driver Safety Initiatives into a new Competency based Competition driver licensing programme. This work continues.

This scholarship was established in 2006 from an idea to best utilise the skills of world recognised NZ Neuroscientist Dr Kerry Spackman. In the years since recipients have received assistance from some of New Zealand's leading sports psychologists and other sports professionals all aimed at developing higher skill levels in our elite competitors.

Coaching

On behalf of MotorSport NZ the Trust has researched methodology into how coaching can be introduced across the wider motorsport disciplines. A paper on coaching was submitted to the MotorSport NZ Executive in November 2008.

Since accepting the main recommendations of that paper the Trust in 2009 ran a pilot Rally Codrivers Collegiate for nine codrivers and further collegiates are planned.

The Trust has been engaged by the MotorSport NZ Executive to develop a paper on integrating the FIA Young Driver Safety Initiatives with the coaching programmes foreseen in the November 2008 coaching paper. This work continues.
