Media release from The MotorSport Company
2008-09 BNT V8s Championship
Round 1, Taupo Motorsport Park 3-5 October 2008
Date: 6 October 2008
Fogg excluded from BNT V8s results in Taupo
Following an official inquiry late on Sunday evening, the results for the third race of the opening round of the BNT V8s Championship in Taupo were amended by officials.
Post-race scrutineering by MotorSport New Zealand’s technical division highlighted an apparent irregularity with an alloy wheel on the Ford driven by Angus Fogg, winner of the weekend’s third BNT V8 race. The event director Graeme Robinson subsequently ruled that the wheel did not compile with regulations and applied a penalty which saw the top-running V8 driver excluded from the results of race three.
Fogg has appealed the penalty, but as the stewards’ hearing will not be held until just before the second round of the BNT V8s at Pukekohe on 7/8 November, until that time, the results for round one remain provisional with Fogg’s exclusion currently remaining in effect in official results and the overall points’ calculations.
Paul Pedersen has now been provisionally declared the winner of race three with Eddie Bell and Kayne Scott elevated to second and third respectively.
Overall Paul Radisich and Scott are provisionally tied on 184 points at the top of the championship points’ table. Andy Booth and John McIntyre tie for third place overall with 135 points each, while young star Michael Bristow moves into fifth place.
Race results and the championship points’ table on the new-look BNT V8s website, www.nzv8s.co.nz, will be updated to reflect these changes by Tuesday 7 October.
