Cassidy right in contention in Japan’s SUPER GT series
Nick Cassidy is staying right in the hunt for Japan’s SUPER GT Championship after finishing sixth in the Fuji 300 kms race last night in his Lexus LC500 with team-mate Ryo Hirakawa.
The pair are only two points behind Englishman James Rossiter who finished fourth in the latest round of Japan’s major series.
“It went much better than expected,” said Aucklander Cassidy, “We weren’t thinking about scoring points because of our weight handicap.”

Win for Armstrong sees him second in ADAC F4 Champs
Armstrong gets third season win
Marcus Armstrong (17, NZ, Prema Powerteam) won the 15th race of the ADAC Formula 4 at the Nürburgring and underlined his championship ambitions with his third win of the season. Julian Hanses (19, Hilden, US Racing) finished second with Enzo Fittipaldi (16, Brazil, Prema Powerteam), the grandson of twice-named Formula One World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi third. The overall leader Yuri Vips and Armstrong’s Prema Powerteam team mate missed the podium finishing fourth.

Harker heading to TRS for 2018
2016/17 Toyota 86 Championship runner-up Reid Harker has signalled he wants to be a contender in next year’s Castrol Toyota Racing Series.
The 21-year-old recently tested Toyota’s FT50 open wheeler at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park following on from his success in the feeder series.
With a taste of the wings-and-slicks platform, the former New Zealand KartSport champion said he’s ready for the next step in his fledging career.
“The Toyota Racing Series is the next logical step for us in New Zealand,” Harker said.

Antis completes first Rally NZ Co-drivers Academy
Twenty-year-old Auckland based co-driver Kieran Anstis has successfully completed the first Rally New Zealand Co-Drivers Academy in Auckland. The academy is an investment from Rally New Zealand to help develop local New Zealand Co Driving Talent. Run over three days, six up and coming co-drivers from across New Zealand have been mentored by professional international co-drivers Alex and Rhiannon Gelsomino.

Historic Auckland-Wellington route revived for 2017 Targa NZ

Dinner to commemorate 50 years of New Zealand rallying
Fifty years ago, the Hamilton Car Club ran a competitive motorsport event which is now regarded as the first rally in New Zealand.
The May 1967 event was called the Rally of the Pines and was won by club member Bill Purvis in a 1951 Morris Minor that he rebuilt after bidding for it as a write-off in an insurance company tender – it was both his road car and designed to perform well enough to satisfy his sporting needs.
