EDGELL QUICK IN THE SOUTH

Aucklander Tim Edgell continues to rack up impressive performances in the BNT V8s Championship. Edgell had his Chesters Falcon flying at Teretonga Park in Invercargill at the weekend as Round 3 of the championship was decided. During the first two races of the round Tim ran with the leaders, climbing to fourth in the championship points to that point of the weekend.

In the third race he was the innocent victim in an incident, robbing him of the opportunity to add more points to his tally.

The former Formula Ford Champion qualified 3rd fastest in Saturday afternoons top ten shootout .104 of a second away from John McIntyre's pole position time. The following morning Edgell chased two-time champion McIntyre and the ultra-experienced Craig Baird all the way to the chequered flag, crossing the line 3rd ahead of Angus Fogg. "It was a tough race, it was all in the start," said Tim as the leaders ran in close quarters for the entire distance.

Just a few short hours later Edgell was on track again, this time scoring 4th place in an incredibly close finish. As the cars crossed the line, Tim in 4th place was just .777 of a second behind the race winner McIntyre, with Baird and Fogg next. The great beginning to the day had Tim sitting fourth in the championship point standings with just the final race to come.

The third race was run under the controversial reverse grid format and for Tim it spelled disaster, taking a little of the gloss off an otherwise superb weekend. The Chesters Falcon was a casualty early on and back in the pits with a damaged radiator and unable to continue Edgell explained that he had taken a hit from another car. "Two good results and then you're finished off by other people," said a dejected Edgell. "We had been fast all weekend but that last race made it tough for us."

Edgell Performance Racing are now faced with a busy week as they repair the car for the next round at Timaru International Raceway next weekend.

While Edgell was disappointed with the outcome of the finale, the young Aucklander should be proud of another top effort at Teretonga. The small team has repeatedly punched above its weight over the last three seasons and is now a real force at the front of the field.

Tim’s 2009/2010 BNT V8s Championship campaign is supported by Chesters Plumbing and Bathroom, BNT, Marley NZ Ltd, Laufen Bathrooms, Hansen Products, Fuchs Oils, Wurth NZ and Element 82.
