Improvements for Mackenzie at Teretonga
Albany Toyota NZV8 driver, Haydn Mackenzie, was pleased to make significant progress with the set-up of his car in the third round of the New Zealand BNTV8s Championship at Teretonga last weekend.
“We had some set-up issues with the car in qualifying and, but with a lot of hard work by my team over the weekend, in very warm conditions, we gradually improved the car such that we managed to finish fourth in the third race,” said Mackenzie.
“The car was definitely not working well during practice and qualifying on Saturday and my crew worked until 11.30pm that night to try to rectify the problem. Certainly the car was better for the first race and we finished 17th after qualifying 19th. However, for the next race – as the temperature of the day got hotter, the car’s set-up/grip went ‘off’ early in the race and I struggled to finish 17th again. For the third race, with its reverse grid start, I started near the front of the grid. We had made several changes to the set-up after the second race and the car felt really good in the early laps of the race, but then the 47 degrees track temperature caused the set-up to go ‘off’ in the latter part of the race, but we still managed to finish fourth.
“I just want to thank my team for the huge effort they put in over the weekend. We learned a lot and are now looking forward to Timaru this coming weekend,” said Mackenzie.
