Dear Members,
1. Amendments to Manual 34
There have been some recent amendments to the MotorSport New Zealand Manual number 34, books One and Two. These amendments will be posted on the website shortly at http://www.motorsport.org.nz/Regs/manual.htm#AmdmtsManual34.
Please take the time to familiarise yourself with these amendments and amend your Manual/s accordingly.
2. Fuel Regulations for NZ Rally Championship confirmed.
MSNZ commissioned 2 testing programmes on Group N 4WD vehicles to confirm the requirement to run unleaded pump fuel in the NZRC was workable.
This identified that NZ pump fuel is up to the mark provided the engines are tuned accordingly. In fact, one brand (Force 10) is shown as exceeding the performance potential of ELF WRF (at a fraction of the cost) which is probably a surprise to all.
The 2008 NZRC Portfolio (as issued) authorises under Article 7.5.1 the use of Schedule A fuels (ie. service station pump fuel) and under Article 7.5.2 (for Round 3, Whangarei) and Round 5, Rally NZ) the use of fuel as detailed in the applicable Supplenentary Regulations for these two international events.
http://www.motorsport.org.nz/Pdf/08%20NZRC%20Portfolio.pdf
The Supplementary Regulations for Whangarei state; Fuel shall comply with the provisions of Article 9.0 of Appendix J 252. All NZ pump fuels (except 91) comply with this Article, hence the Portfoli o and the Supp Regs align.
The Whangarei Supplementary Regulations also state;
- The use of complying FIA type fuels is permitted.
- The use of unleaded commercial petrol at petrol filling stations is permitted.
- Additionally, Competitors wishing to use premium 98 must make their own arrangements (as 98 and indeed Gull Force 10 are not available in Whangarei).
So in summary (with the currently issued documentation) the following is in place for NZRC fuel.
Round 1,2,4 & 6 - only fuels from NZ Service Stations are authorised (Schedule A).
Round 3 & 5 - the pump fuels as above are authorised and there is the option for all to use the FIA control fuel of the Rally.
Rally NZ has not yet issued their Supp Regs but it is believed they will mirror those of Whangarei.
3. Speedshow 2008
Below is a media Release from The Expo G roup about Speedshow 2008.
Expect much more at Speedshow 2008
The 2008 dates for the second Speedshow motorsport expo have been announced with organiser Keith Sharp confirming Speedshow will be open for motorsport fans of all ages to enjoy over the weekend of 20 and 21 September this year.
The 2008 Speedshow will be held at the well-known ASB Showgrounds in Auckland's Greenlane, a venue Sharp describes as offering a lot of potential for the growing event.
"At the ASB Showgrounds, we have a great deal of scope to develop several really exiciting outdoor displays and, ideally, some dynamic action in the arena." says Sharp, an Auckland-based racing driver and former performance driving instructor.
"We are working hard to grow the event to an exciting new level. The inaugural Speedshow, which we ran at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre in Manukau, was really successful. We were delighted with the r esponses we had from the show visitors, exhibitors and all the motorsport enthusiasts who put cars on display to make it a really lively and entertaining event.
Sharp is pleased to have the support of GT Radial as the naming rights sponsor for the second time.
"The support of Perry Scarfe, Vince Jones and the GT Radial team made a big difference to Speedshow in its first year and, this year, they have some innovative ideas for fabulous giveaways for this year's Speedshow attendees, which we're really looking forward to."
Speedshow 2008 will also provide fans with a unique retrospective of Ken Smith's fifty seasons of racing.
"When we saw the news of Kenny celebrating his 50 seasons of motor racing, it seemed a very fitting way to provide tribute to someone who can truly be called an icon of the New Zealand circuit racing scene." says Sharp.
"The good thing is when I asked him about the idea, he said 'yep, that would be ok' and then started listing all the fantastic single seater cars he's driven which we could put on display. We have a number of ideas around Kenny's tribute and will provide more news as these are developed in coming months."
Sharp is delighted to have key motorsport organisations such as Chicane, Cardwells, Flamecrusher, Castrol New Zealand, Targa New Zealand and F40 Motorsport already committed to exhibiting at the 2008 Speedshow.
Sharp invites inquiries from companies interested in exhibiting at Speedshow via email: keith@speedshow.co.nz or phone: 09 445 3175. "We've been able to keep the cost of exhibiting reasonable and Speedshow offers a targeted, highly interested audience for businesses associated with motorsport in any way."
The expo website, www.speedshow.co.nz, will be updated frequently with news of displays, live action and the wide range of motorsport-related businesses that will exhibit at Speedshow 2008.
Sp eedshow background
A well-known Auckland-based race car driver and performance driving instructor, Keith Sharp came up with hte idea for Speedshow after selling his performance driving school in 2006.
The Speedshow concept celebrates a wide range of motorsport personalities, cars, bikes and, of course, the fans who attend the many forms of motor racing events around New Zealand each year.
"I've seen this sort of motorsport-oriented show overseas and wondered why we've never had anything like it in New Zealand." says Sharp. "Just look at the popularity of so many forms of motorsport locally. There's a diverse and well-supported range of motor racing events and classes in New Zealand with many thousands of Kiwis involved with, or fans of, one form of motorsport or another."
The inaugral Speedshow took place at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre in Manukau in September 2007 and, with around 8,500 attendees, was regarded a great success b y exhibitors, attendees, and Sharp and his organising team.
